we think it merely blood
and bone
this sack of us
sinew and muscle woven
beneath a thin covering
but oh! the lovely weather
lightning and thunderclap
rain and wind
that course through vein
and artery
an ocean of salty water
constrained in a bony
landscape
a breathy wind that shouts
in the dark
we are wind and sun and
rain
weather carried in a
leather pouch
small cloudbursts of
stardust and earth
I really enjoyed this Pauline
ReplyDeletei like us as a mix of stardust and earth....and yeah, we are full of weather as well...i think that might be our passions...
ReplyDeleteI like the linking of the external and the internal here, Pauline. 'Weather carried in a leather pouch' - very neat as both imagery and metaphor. This works so well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, OOTP
ReplyDeleteBrian - sometimes the words just come out right. You know about that!
Dick - thanks for your comment. It means a lot to be appreciated by a poet whose work I so admire.
You did a lovely job with this one. Love the earth and stardust reference.

Your poem is visually striking. You use words that convey powerful images such as: "we are wind and sun and rain/weather carried in a leather pouch"
