Red winged blackbirds! Yes! That's a sure sign of spring!
Here in Iowa we will not see them for several weeks. I am guessing mid April.
Enjoyed the covered bridge. You have perhaps heard of a book called The Covered Bridges of Madison County - later a movie with Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. Madison County, Iowa, is just southwest of Des Moines.
It's certainly starting to look that way, Pauline. The earth is beginning to wake up! I hope it had lovely dreams, and will be a good mood come spring.
That covered bridge looks as if has many stories to tell. I'm not sure I'd be able to bring myself to cross it in the dark of night. In the daylight, it's wonderfully mysterious, but I'd half expect to emerge into the underworld, if I ventured in there in the dark.
Ruth - a few days after posting this it is close to 50 degrees. Yes!
Ribbon - I'd be happy to share some of our snow with you!
Meggie - it is always odd to picture you headed into fall and winter darkness just as out light is increasing.
Dick - since this post, the snow has receded in the meadow by the river - a sure sign of warming earth.
Russell - I have the book and saw the movie. My daughter visited the bridges when she was driving through Madison County and fell in love with the area.
HHB - I'm rushing around that corner to meet it!
LOS and Reya - there's a story behind that bridge. Perhaps I may tell it here.
