Living Rural

One of the great advantages of living rural is the scenery just outside my door. I don't have to drive miles to see mountains (though to get to the seashore I have to fight hours of traffic), I am surrounded by meadows filled with flowers, and the pond across the road offers constantly changing views of flora and fauna. The air is always clean and refreshing in the morning even when the day before was stifling. Birds perform daily concerts, dining is often alfresco with ingredients fresh from my own garden, and every evening, except for the occasional rainy one, ends in a spectacular light show put on by the setting sun and whatever clouds happen to be in the vicinity. I get to see...

little mist ghosts heading for the sky...

dew drops on milkweed leaves...

masses of Queen Anne's Lace leaning toward the mid-day sun...

and trumpet flowers catching the last of the light...

before the day ends.

I have similar views (except the pond thanks to the drought!) and I'm so grateful!! Beautiful photos!

When I think of being out in natural surroundings, I wish I could see through your eyes.
And then I look at your blog, at posts like this, and I realize --- I can.
Thank you, thank you.

Hi Pauline,

Amazing eye opener for people like me who are living in congested towns filled with concrete buildings, traffic snarls, smoke pollution and noise pollution, clogged drainage pipes, pot holed roads and people jostling with each other to keep moving forward.

You are living in the midst of beauty, serenity, peace and quietude. This is indeed a heaven on earth where we can live with nature in all its pristine glory. Lucky you. Thanks for giving lovely glimpses of your wonderful place.

Best wishes,
Joseph

Steven - all the small pleasures make up a satisfying life

OOTP - I am entranced by your own beautiful photos of the prairie. I could not live in a city - I've been in enough of them to know I can't breathe there, literally and figuratively!

Thanks Barbara S - I've seen your lovely photos - all those brave little flowers blooming despite the awful heat!

Brian - the nearest city is a couple of hours away, thank goodness. Though I grew up more rural than I now am, I still have woods and meadows to roam about in.

Tabor - I am lucky! A day does not go by that I don't think so too!

Judith - I've trained myself since childhood to look at my surroundings the way I do. I am most happy and most at peace in some meadow or woodland.

Joseph - I do live in a lovely place, thank you. I am lucky enough to be able to do so, and to appreciate it. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment.

Most people would pay a pretty price for views like these. How great that it's yours for free!

I get to know my birds. Silly odd dinosaurs. That's what I think they are. Brutal driven cruel things, anything to eat something today, peck my eye if they see a morsel, throw out their baby, grab whatever they can eat. On the other hand I'm sure the more I love them the closer they come to me. Mornings are better. Hop. Hop. Hop. I've birds all around me. It's a sound on my shoulder, a lift on my brow, a boost to the corner sun, a loft to my arm. We're here. No day is better. Birds bring us there. We ar loved among these living things. They tell us that. We are place. Both of us are wondrous, We put feet. They put wing.
