'Cause it's summertime you know...

misty mornings
The weather has been suffocatingly hot and more heat is on the way. Any gardening has to be done at dawn or dusk for by mid-day the sun searches out every nook and cranny with its searing fingers. The birds still whistle up the sun through mysterious morning mists and sing it to sleep again in the evenings, but at high noon they are as silent and still as mice under the shadow of an owl's wing. The insects hold sway now, humming, buzzing, and chirring high in the trees and low in the grass. It's too hot to be out and about. If you need me, I'll be floating around in my brother's pool...

the best place to be in the afternoon heat

The language in this one is a real treat, Pauline. Chirring, indeed!
And the sun's searing fingers ---
Beautiful.

OOTP - 90 degrees, hot and humid. The pool water felt delicious!

Brian M - I don't know how to swim but I loll with the best of them ;)

Thanks, Anne :)

Tabor - grab your suit!

J - aren't words fun!

Pranavam - thank you. I liked your latest poem.

And still, even at the height of summer, a cup of tea by the pool is the finishing touch---for perfection!
Glad you have a nice place to cool off and relax! I like those "chirring" insects, up in the trees, down in the grass---the sound of summer!

A few days ago, I was enjoying the heat by floating around in the lake. I'd happily settle for a pool right now. It's been a HOT one.

Searing heat here today. The birds are gaping and squirrels are flopped on limbs, legs dangling.

So...where's your brother's place?

;)

You described our area perfectly! Wish I had that pool nearby to dive into!

Molly - a cuppa is never out of season!

Hilary - who'd think that 80 degree water would feel cool but when the air is 95!

Frank, just down the road apiece ;)

Barbara - it's a three mile walk, bike ride, or drive. Today I drove - too hot to do anything else!
