Oh Baby

Ada Bean and her Memere

There's something about a baby, something about the bottomless depth of their eyes that brings tears to yours, something about their silken, sweetly-scented skin that makes you want to bury your nose in their neck, something about their helplessness that makes you want to protect them. And when that baby is your own grandchild, as this one is, there's a bond that starts somewhere in the middle of your heart and reaches into every cell of your body until you are love itself, completely and irrevocably in tune with them for the rest of your life, no matter what.

Sigh.. I'm so ready for grandchildren. Looks like I've still got a wait ahead of me so I'll just live vicariously through you and yours. Lovely, Pauline. She's a doll! :)

I think the love between a mother [or grandma!]is the most perfect form of love....You both look beautiful---and not just to each other!

Ruth - I fell in love with my grandkids the same way I fell in love with my children - my heart capitulated completely! Will your chance come soon?

Star - wonderful, yes?

Steven - deep magic! Exactly!

Hilary - I'll have to post more "grandparent" writings, just for you :)

thanks, Molly - it's amazing how hard one can fall in love with someone so small and inarticulate and new but it has happened every time. It's a glorious feeling!

Brian -you have to take the whole package!

Late again. When a baby is born into our fishing family, the statement is always made...This one's a keeper. And this one sure is!

You can tell she loves her grandma with everything she's got already!!

"a bond that starts somewhere in the middle of your heart and reaches into every cell of your body until you are love itself"...this whole post expresses so well how I feel with my grands. We have twins arriving in two weeks...there'll be double grandparental love!

My sister LOVES being a grandmother. She loved being a mother, but the every-other-generation relationship seems to be like no other.

Babies are such incredible beings, so full of potential and mystery, both wise and completely innocent. So glad you are bonding with this lucky baby!
