Magpie Tales #14: True Story!

 Dinner, Anyone?

There were ten empty blue willow plates set before ten hungry guests gathered around the table, all sniffing appreciatively at the spicy aroma of pork chop pizziole. They heard the oven door open. There was a scraping sound, a grunt, and a tremendous, squishy thud. Investigation showed them what had become of dinner. Pork chops, tomato sauce and cheese lay in a puddle on the floor. Sauce slid down the walls and some of the cheese hung from a doorknob. “Ah,” remarked one of the guests, sizing up the situation. “Pork Chops Linoleum!”

For this week's Magpie Tales.

Such a shame. Glad you can find humor in it. It means that now I have to go out for dinner ;-)

Oh! I really don't want to laugh, Pauline, but your description was so well done I came out with a big HAW!

Hope you all enjoyed the toast and jam that were now required to be eaten off those gorgeous plates!

Perhaps the cheese was trying to escape?

That was marvelous. A bit like a fairytale (what will set before the king?) and a bit like every kitchen disaster I've ever known.

A long ago ex dropped a huge vat of spaghetti sauce, and a great eruption of hot sauce went all the way to the ceiling before crashing down again.

Dreadful to cleanup but rather impressive to see, really.

An interesting mess. Kind of like life often is.

Steven - it changed our dinner plans, too!

Tabor - it was a shame at the time but we all ended up laughing and ordering a pizza

Thanks, Brian - we do that a lot of laughing at misfortune in my family

Marion - you can laugh, it's ok;)

Willow - I bet we all have dinner disaster stories!

it does, Suz, it does

CC - makes me laugh just remembering the mess!

Tumble - it took us all a few minutes to register the Pork Chops Linoleum and then we were all laughing, too

LOS - and such a LOT of cheese. I was so sorry to miss that meal but we had just returned from the beach and the floor was so sandy it was impossible to scrape the goo off the floor and eat it!

transp - pork chops pizziole is a delicious dish consisting of layers of browned pork chops smothered in thick, spicy tomato sauce and lots of melted mozzerella cheese.

thanks jingle :)

.... after 'the squishy thud' I almost expected a monster to squeeze out of the oven .... and yes, we have all had our disasters.

congrats on the POTW

and after the momentary almost tears,
I guess pizza would be the best solution!

Precisely why no one is allowed in my kitchen while I'm cooking. I think, well, depending on the exact disaster, there might have been a quick reassembly, a covering with fresh cheese, and a trip under the broiler.

What the eye don't see, the chef gets away with.

Congratulations on the potw.

The attempted Great Escape by the Pork Chop and Cheese has been mentioned as a post of the week, congratulations Pauline :-)

Thanks to all -

if only the floor HAD been clean but alas, there was no saving saucy cheese embedded with sand and grit. After all, we'd just come back from the beach. Unfortunately, there were no dogs to dispatch dinner, the way there was when I upended a pan of pork chops on the porch - we've called them porch chops ever since ;)

Oh man...been there, done that...
It's so sad when that happens, but how wonderful that somebody had a quick wit to turn it into A Great Story.
