Worth Repeating

From the Velveteen Rabbit:
"Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all because when you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Well, okay then.

hi pauline - such a cool and for me timely quote as i have cracked fifty two years and observe that the hair on top is thinning, my knees feel wonky after runs and bike rides, stairs and hills seem longer and steeper, and yet i feel more real and who i was meant to be than at any other time in my life!!! so thanks for this. it's made a lovely good start to this morning! steven

Awww ... I think we're all real, even before our fur is rubbed off. Really real!

Happy Sunday!

Hi Pauline: Made my way over here from steven's blog. Your blog looks very interesting - I'll be back for sure.

And, now I have proof that I'm real!

I adore these lines from the Velveteen Rabbit. I used to read them over and over again. Definitely words worth repeating.

Ahh! That explains it! I thought all those things just meant I was getting old! I like this explanation much better! Isn't it funny that when we're young and gorgeous we don't really know who we are? Maybe because we're judged a lot then by outward appearance, whereas when we get older and shabbier [on the outside anyway] it's who we are deep inside that matters more. Good things to think about and draw comfort from on a Sunday!

I always loved that story. I'm so REAL these days and I have a lot of those characteristics you mentioned.

Have always loved this quote. As I am nearly at the 'half way mark', it feels appropriate today.

Steven - more and more wonkiness as we head toward the "golden" years, eh?

Reya, yes, but we don't all believe that until we're well loved...

Thanks for stopping by Bonnie

I agree Annie!

Thanks Dawn and Philip and you, too Meggie

Molly - it's who we are deep inside for sure!

Barbara - real is good :)

Happy halfway, HHB!
