Holiday Break

The best china, the set handed down from my grandmother, is waiting to be taken from the cupboard, the turkey is waiting to be stuffed, the potatoes and the vegetables are waiting the paring knife, the delicate china cranberry dish is waiting to hold the shimmering sauce, the pies are waiting to be baked to golden perfection, and I am waiting for my family to arrive. Tomorrow and the next day will be a flurry of cooking and talking and eating. Happy Thanksgiving to those that celebrate it!

I'm sure it will be a feast. I'm so glad your family is coming to you this year. I want to hear more details about what you are cooking!

Barbara - we always stick to the traditional feast - a turkey basted with butter and paprika, bread stuffing with celery and onion, meat stuffing made from pork, beef, and veal spiced with allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon (the leftovers are baked into a meat pie the next day), mashed potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, green beans, brussell sprouts and carrots (from the garden), and cranberry sauce. I make cranberry orange relish for the turkey sandwiches that always appear at suppertime. We make extra to bring to friends that don't have anyone to celebrate with.

Thanks, Princess. How did your turkey turn out?

It's mine, too (foodwise) Ruth.

Lee - the door is always open.... lobbing you some virtual victuals ;)

What a lovely picture of your grandmother's china. It is that time of year, isn't it. Tomorrow I will take out the Christmas Spode, dust it off and settle in for the holidays. While the Spode was not handed down to me, it does mark the beginning of the holiday season, and someday my daughter will carry on the tradition.

I hope you and yours enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving.

Peace

Happy Thanksgiving,Pauline - to you and yours .... indeed the china is lovely. I inherited one of my grandmother's many sets .... I always hear that one should use the 'fine china' every day. For each day should be a celebration!

No, I have not done this, but I DO like the thought. It's having all these kids around .... :)

pauline, the china is exotic. And the rest of the discussion -- well, please excuse me -- I have a generous bit of drool to wipe up. Hope you had a really special lovely day.
